Electro-Optical Surveillance - Cloudcroft.

Abstract

Several major efforts were completed for the E.O. Research Facility at Cloudcroft, New Mexico, with the objectives of updating and improving the facility. The significance of these efforts to the Air Force is that important new technical capabilities have been achieved for conducting in-house laboratory R and D on electro-optical and infrared sensor and data processing techniques for aerospace surveillance. This will enable the AF Avionics Laboratory to better support Technical Needs and Required Operational Capabilities of AFSC Systems Divisions and AF Operational Commands. These efforts included design, fabrication, and installation of precision mounting hardware for three 21 bit digital encoders, design and fabrication of modular solid state tracking electronics, procurement and fabrication of a five bay console and panels, design of an aluminizing adapter, and assembly, test, and installation of a filter servo for the 15-inch telescope and a 16 MM camera mount for the 48-inch telescope.
