Integrated Target Control System AN/USW-3(XN-1)(V).

Abstract

The integrated Target Control System AN/USW-3(XN-1)(V), hereafter referred to as ITCS, is for the remote control of target drones and pilotless aircraft by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The functions of command, tracking, and telemetry are integrated into a system that provides a cost effective solution to the target control program. The ITCS will provide line-of-sight control of up to six randomly spaced targets, or over-the-horizon control of up to four randomly spaced targets. Eight control station types were specified using a common technical concept and common control station components wherever practical. A vehicle transponder is designed for use with all high performance and gunnery aerial targets, land targets, and boat targets anticipated for use by the three services over the expected life of the ITCS. By using one or more of the ITCS control stations, it will be possible to execute anticipated target missions without reliance on any other command, tracking, or telemetry instrumentation equipment.
