Morality, Duty and the Professional Military Officer.

Abstract

Society in the United States is undergoing vast changes as to views on moral standards, commonly known as ethical conduct. The professional military officer, a segment of that society, is no exception. This discussion examines the basic codes of ethical human behavior by briefly reviewing some theories proposed by renowned philosophers, past and present. Representative moral philosophies are then related to the present, examining the questions and challenges confronting the professional military officer today. In summary, some suggested rules of ethical conduct are presented. (Author)
