ABMDA Field Array Radar (AFAR). Volume III.

Abstract

The ABMDA Field Array Radar (AFAR) is an all-solid-state phased array radar, i.e., one in which a low-voltage, low-power, solid-state transceiver module is used at each antenna element rather than using a large, high-power conventional vacuum tube transmitter to drive the entire array. One of the objectives of the program is that it will serve as a solid-state test bed to: (1) demonstrate solid-state radar operation; (2) verify production techniques for solid-state transceiver modules; and (3) gather system and module performance, reliability and availability data.
