Reliability Testing of Radar Set AN/PPS-17(XN-1) and Radar Set AN/PPS-18(XN-1).
Abstract
The AN/PPS-17(XN-1) and the AN/PPS-18(XN-1) are portable battlefield surveillance radar sets which provide audio frequencies monitored by a headphone plugged into the main chassis as an indication that a moving target is present. The radar sets are capable of operation in two sector scan modes: model 1 and mode 2, and one track mode: mode 3. When in operation, the AN/PPS-17(XN-1) is composed of four assemblies: the tripod, the angular head, the radar chassis, and the headphones. The total weight is approximately 29 pounds and the dimensions of the radar chassis are 14 x 12 x 7 inches.
