Development Test II (Engineering Phase) of Night Vision Goggles, AN/PVS-5.

Abstract

The development test II (engineering phase) of the Night Vision Goggles, AN/PVS-5, was conducted to determine the degree to which the test items satisfied the requirements of the Purchase Description and the Approved Materiel Need/Qualitative Materiel Requirement for individual night vision aids. A complete maintenance evaluation was performed on each test item. The development test II (engineering phase) included an evaluation of resolving power performed before and after all environmental tests. A safety evaluation was performed to determine if the test item presented any mechanical, electrical, or audible hazards to using personnel. The items were also tested to evaluate their flash-protection capabilities to protect the viewer's eyes when directly observing high-intensity flashes of light. The night vision goggles sustained no damage from high-intensity light sources and adequately protected the viewer's eyes. None of the test items presented any hazards to using personnel. The operation of the test items, including the resolving power, was unaffected by extreme environmental conditions. The night vision goggles met all of the 22 requirements of the criteria.
