WRECS V. A Fortran Code for Computation of Weapon Radiation Effects on Communication Systems. Volume I. User's Guide,

Abstract

The WRECS V computer program estimates nuclear-weapon-induced degradation of VLF, LF and HF radio trunks. Computation procedures allow efficient treatment of multiburst, multitrunk problems. The program can be operated as a linked program, requiring about 45 K core locations or as a single program, requiring about 150 K core locations. Nine peripheral files are used. Prompt ionization sources and delayed ionization produced by gammas, betas, beta bremsstrahlung, and Compton electrons are considered. EM propagation calculations are performed using waveguide mode theory at VLF and ray theory at LF and HF. The inputs include weapon and trunk descriptors, evaluation times, and user defined options. The weapons are characterized by yield, location, detonation altitude, fission fraction and detonation time. Radio trunks are characterized by operating frequency(s), terminal locations, and operating signal strength margin. In addition, HF trunk descriptors may include antenna type, transmitter power and bandwidth. Input options select one of several computational procedures and control the detailed output.
