Development Test (DT II) (Service Phase) (Internal Air Portability and Airdrop) of Night Vision Sight, Infrared, AN/TAS-3 ( ), for Use on Dragon and TOW Weapon Systems.

Abstract

The test objective was to determine the suitability of the night vision sight for air portability and airdrop during the assault phase of airborne operations. Testing was conducted under field conditions by soldiers representative of those who will operate and maintain the equipment when it is fielded. The night vision sight with the DRAGON and TOW was loaded, restrained, and successfully flown in the CH-47 Helicopter and under maximum performance conditions in a C-130 aircraft. Additionally, the night vision sight was successfully airdropped three times in airdrop containers and two times on airdrop platforms as accompanying loads from a C-130 aircraft. It was found that the night vision sight in its carrying bag readily adapted without modification to standard air portability and airdrop procedures and equipment. (Author)
