Tunable Optical Receiver,

Abstract

This report describes the results obtained during a one-year program aimed at developing techniques for tunable acousto-optic filters (TAOF) in the infrared region. The proposed techniques investigated in this program included: (a) Type I - the natural birefringent TAOF, (b) Type II - the strain-biased TAOF and (c) Type III - the noncollinear TAOF. The results of experimental work with many materials and new theoretical work carried out during the program are detailed in this report. A demonstration model of a TAOF using CaMoO4 as the filter material was designed, constructed, tested, and delivered to RADC. The testing results of the demonstration model are also presented in the report. (Author)
