Design Study - Experimental Radar Prediction Device.

Abstract

There is a need within the Air Force for the rapid production of radar predictions of uniformly high quality, incorporating the latest intelligence information. Present radar production techniques depend primarily upon manual procedures and are consequently slow and variable in quality depending on the skill and experience of personnel. The results of a detailed design study leading to the implementation of an Experimental Radar Prediction Device (ERPD) are presented in this report. Design approaches for an ERPD controlled by a minicomputer as well as by hard-wired circuits were investigated and the hard-wired ERPD was selected for detailed design on the basis of cost. Design requirements were formulated as a Configuration Item Development Specification. An ERPD configuration was developed, including a full-sized mockup with panel layouts. A set of operation procedures was written for the production of radar predictions and for the update and operation of radar data used by the ERPD. (Author)
