Reliability Program Management Guide.

Abstract

This report consists of guidelines for an Air Force Program Manager directing a program to develop and produce highly reliable electronic equipment. The subject matter is restricted to reliability program management with some reference to related items of maintainability and cost. The body of the report considers the requirements and procedures ofr conducting the reliability aspects of a program including a Program Manager's checklist, initial program requirements, program plans for both the Air Force and the contractor's response, testing program requirements, and program conclusion and termination problems. The intent of the report is to provide guidance to the Program Manager who is not necessarily familiar with reliability programs, requirements, and expected results. Other areas covered include management visibility requirements, information needs, and program activities to provide the manager with the necessary inputs to evaluate contractor progress versus the schedule, and factors involved in management control. Appendix material includes a broader philosophical discussion of the concepts of reliability and reliability programs to provide the manager with broader background, and a brief review of some of the aspects of the Ultrareliable Airborne UHF Radio Command Set Program, AN/ARC-144 and -145.
