Feasibility Study of Thermoplastic Gun Propellant.

Abstract

This report covers the feasibility study of thermoplastic gun propellants with Celcon acetal resin and HMX as the major ingredients. The dual goals of extruding the propellant and of obtaining 375,000 ft-lb/lb impetus at less than 2500 K flame temperature were not attained, even though theoretical calculations showed the goals to be feasible. The reasons for the lack of success are discussed, conclusions are drawn, and recommendations are made for further studies. (Author)
