C-5A Category I Engineering Flight Test. Malfunction Detection, Analysis and Recording (MADAR) Subsystem Test Results. Addendum 1.

Abstract

This addendum reports the results of an investigation to define effectiveness of the C-5A MADAR in detecting and reporting system failures. Records from the Category II test airplane at Edwards Air Force Base and five selected fleet airplanes to determine if failures which MADAR was designed to detect were in fact being detected. Investigation did not reveal any apparent problems in this respect. However, MADAR did repeatedly report failures which are not believed to be monitored LRU failures. It is believed that these reports are caused largely by interface problems which should receive higher maintenance priority to achieve full MADAR effectiveness.
