Standardized Wire-Rope Antenna Hardware.

Abstract

This document evaluates the existing types of wire-rope antenna hardware shown in NAVSHIPS 0967-177-3020 (SHIPBOARD ANTENNA SYSTEMS) and corresponding NAVSEC and shipyard drawings to determine the minimum essential components to be retained in the Navy supply system and unnecessary hardware which can be eliminated. It recommends that 5/16 in.-diameter phosphor bronze antenna wire be used as standard for transmit and receive, and presents tables of standard antenna wire and fittings and antenna wire and fittings to be deleted. It supports its recommendation with stress and electrical analyses which show that 1/8 in.-diameter wire rope is marginal in some respects and unsatisfactory in others. (Author)
