Airborne SHF Satellite Terminal Test.

Abstract

This Final Technical Report describes the results of the testing of the AN/ASC-18(V)(XA-1)SHF Satellite Communication Set. This System includes an RCA Computer Augmented Antenna Pointing System, an RCA 12.5 KW SHF Antenna, an IBM Airborne General Purpose Computer, a Collins SHF RF Terminal, and a Sylvania Wideband Anti-Jam Digital Data Modem, installed aboard a C-135 B Test Bed Aircraft for flight environment tests. A compatible Ground Terminal was located at USASATCOMA, Ft. Monmouth, N. J. The purpose of this Test Program was to subject the Airborne Satellite Communication System to a series of evaluation tests to determine the System's performance characteristics for both ground and flight environments. The Antenna's pointing ability was evaluated, the RF Communication Terminal's data transfer characteristics were tested, and the Modem's bit error rate and synchronization performance was determined. Finally, the Terminal was subjected to a hostile Jamming environment and the results were compared to a Non-jammed environment. (Author)
