Advanced Development Program YF104-GA-100 Turbofan Engine.

Abstract

The primary objective of the YF104-GA-100 Advanced Development Program was to establish a Military Preliminary Flight Rating on a partially developed civil turbofan aircraft propulsion engine of unique 3-spool design. Specific studies, component tests, and full-scale engine tests were selected to implement the available civil engine data, identify any areas where further development may be necessary to the objective, and to demonstrate compliance with military Preliminary Flight Rating requirements. The Program results indicate the engine to possess characteristics of performance, reliability, and durability which would permit its effective use for primary propulsion in a wide variety of manned and unmanned air vehicle applications.
