Integrated NAVSAT/Inertial System Future Test Study.

Abstract

This study included three independent technical tasks. The tasks were related to the Integrated NAVSAT/Inertial System (INI) developed under Contract F-33165-72-C-1406. The three tasks were to: (1) Plan a flight test of the INI system which uses three ground transmitters and the Timation III satellite, (2) Study several potential modifications to the INI system and plan flight tests of these modifications which proved to be desirable, and (3) Plan an accuracy demonstration of the INI system in a high performance tactical aircraft. The INI system is an experimental system consisting of a single channel timeshared NAVSAT receiver, an ASN-90 IMS, a SKC 2000 computer and the required interface units, power supplies and controls to operate the system in a C135 test aircraft. The system combines radio, inertial and barometric measurements in a Kalman filter to provide a precise estimate of aircraft position and velocity.
