Design Data for Composite Structure Safelife Prediction. Volume II. Test Data.

Abstract

This volume contains information on test procedures and methods used to generate empirical data for the 0/90/45 family of boron-epoxy composites which would be suitable for utilization in the design and design comparison of damage tolerant structures and all the data re-sulting from these tests. The testing of boron-epoxy laminates in-cluded tension and compression, and static and fatigue, for various laminates of the 0/plus or minus 45/90 family, notched and unnotched, at room temperature. The basic notch geometry was a circular center notch with a sharp slit notch as a secondary configuration. Additional notches such as symmetrical edge notches, impact notches, partial through notches and ballistic projectile notches were also part of the test program. Photographs of failure modes, summary charts of static notch sensitivity, and fatigue S-N CURVES ARE PRESENTED. (Author, modified-PL)
