Drone Control and Data Retrieval System (DCDRS), Preliminary Design Study Final Report. Volume III. Trade Studies and Analyses. Part XIX. Simulation Analysis.

Abstract

This document analyzes a simulated research effort concerning the effects of snapshot rate, resolution, and static video noise on target acquisition performance. On a remote display unit, video was received from a drone aircraft, and in the interest of conserving bandwidth in the communications downlink, three specific video parameters were analyzed. One variable parameter was snapshot rate, or the rate of arrival of successive new video pictures. In broadcast television this rate is 30 Hz. The rates explored in this study varied from 10 down to 0.3125 Hz.
