ECM Noise Source.

Abstract

An investigation of the feasibility of utilizing a cascaded series of pressurized gas spark gaps to achieve output noise signals in X-band is presented. This research is of significance to the Air Force as a means of generating broad-band noise signals for electronic countermeasure applications in the radar area. The pulse-sharpening capability of a series of spark gaps was verified in tests of single-stage and triple-stage cascade systems at repetition rates of < or = 1000 pps. Recommendations for optimization of the system are presented. (Author)
