Capabilities in Infrared Rapid Scan Spectroscopy with Preliminary Flare Spectra.

Abstract

A rapid scan spectroscopic system, set up for the 1.7-4.7 and 9-14 micron spectral regions, is described. Preliminary representative results on Mk 45, LUU-2B/B and LUU-2B flares, as derived from a hand-analysis of oscilloscope trace photographs, indicates the following: In the 1.7-4.7 micron region, the Mk 45 and LUU-2B/B show similar spectra, consisting of sodium and carbon dioxide emissions superimposed on a graybody continuum. In the 9-14 micron region, the LUU-2B does not appear to act as a graybody with constant emissivity, although specific emissions are observed. Better results will be obtained when the instrument is interfaced with an analog magnetic tape recorder and to computer facilities. (Author)
