Long Range Dynamics Flight Experiments with the 155 MM Projectile, M483.

Abstract

Three series of flight tests have been made with yawsonde instrumented 155mm, M483 projectiles to determine the long range aerodynamic behavior and stability of the shell. Conducted over a two year period, these tests confirmed the stable behavior of the M483 under normal launch conditions, even at subsonic velocities. The results of efforts to induce yaw at launch, however, produced dramatic short flights in which large amplitude, unstable motions were observed. (Author)
