Millimeter Wave System Electromagnetic Compatibility Study.

Abstract

This report presents the results during the first quarter effort of the millimeter wave electromagnetic compatibility study. This period covered is from 6 February 1974 to 6 May 1974. The major effort in the first quarter consisted of the collection of data from previous programs which are related to the millimeter wave EMC study and preliminary test planning for the experimental test program. Millimeter-wave system operations relative to EMC characteristics are summarized. A review of EMI test procedures, instrumentation, modified limits and EMI test results of previous millimeter-wave programs are included. Excerpts from previous millimeter-wave reports and papers are included in this report. These reports contain a significant amount of data on various aspects of millimeter-wave systems. A large amount of data is available on millimeter-wave antenna characteristics. Much research has been performed on the affects of atmospheric propagation characteristics at millimeter-wave frequencies. The atmospheric windows and anti-windows are described within this document. Preliminary test plans for the experimental program are described. Shortcomings in available data for use in developing a standard for a millimeter-wave system EMC testing and evaluation were taken into account in planning the experimental program. (Author)
