Issues in Simulator Software Management Based on the A-7D Simulator Program.
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to gather information about simulator software that may be used to help improve the life cycle management of flight simulator software. First, a background is presented to familiarize the reader with flight simulators, simulator software, and the responsibilities of involved Air Force agencies. An analysis of three key areas in flight simulator software management is presented using experiences and data available from the A-7D simulator program. The first area considers issues in organization and procurement including Air Force-contractor relationships. The second area investigates issues in acquisition planning. The tradeoff options available in acquisition planning are discussed and a contrast is made between the software documentation specified in the A-7D simulator contract and the software documentation delivered. The final key area is that of issues in simulator software support. Changes to the simulator software occur from development through operational use and should be managed properly.
