Comparative Radar Response of Unlighted Buoys,

Abstract

Tests were conducted to obtain more specific information on the effects of omitting the horizontal planes in the design of the 1952 type, unlighted, radar reflector buoys. Results do tend to show that the omission of the horizontal planes but little effect on the overall efficiency of the radar reflector. It is also indicated that the efficiency of the radar reflector, with or without horizontal planes, decreases rather rapidlyas it is inclined from the vertical to approximately 20 degrees.
