The Joint Logistics Enterprise Enables Operation United Assistance

Abstract

As part of Operation United Assistance (OUA), the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and U.S. Army Africa (USARAF) provided logistics, training, and engineering support for the U.S. Agency for International Development s (USAID s) mission to combat the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa. Establishing OUA required the rapid reaction of the Department of Defense (DOD) with its unique military skills and capabilities. Integral to this effort was settingthe theater, a fundamental mission ofArmy service component commands(ASCCs). The ASCCs provide theDOD with the ability to confront arange of contingencies worldwide insupport of U.S. government policy.The joint logistics enterprise (JLEnt)gave USARAF the muscle it neededto set the theater and accomplish themission in West Africa.
