RANS Simulations using OpenFOAM Software

Abstract

The use of the OpenFOAM software suite for the performance of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations is described and illustrated by applying the simple Foam solver to two case studies; two dimensional flow along a curved ramp and three dimensional flow along the hull of a generic conventional submarine. A detailed description of the use of the code is provided and aspects of the discretization schemes, solution solvers, turbulence schemes and boundary conditions are discussed.
