Integrated Immunotherapy for Breast Cancer
Abstract
Over the last 12 months of this award, we have focused on developing an in-depth understanding of the immune system in the setting of the tumor microenvironment. We have made progress in developing methods to better analyze the relationships between primary tumor and metastatic growths with their surrounding microenvironments, and implications for immune response and dendritic cell function in vitro using 3D microculture techniques. We have further investigated and tested alternative methods for tumor eradication using combinatorial drugs in attempts to restore/enhance the immune response. Additionally, we continue preparing breast cancer cell lines to aid quantifying progress in in vivo studies using mouse models. We anticipate that the progress made in these last 12 months will lead to combining observations into in vitro and in vivo models to better test our combinatorial immunotherapeutic strategies, restore dendritic cell function in cancer, and identifying novel tumor-associated stroma targets.
