User Manual for HalManeuver: A ShipMo3D Application for Simulating HALIFAX Class Maneuvering

Abstract

This report describes the application HalManeuver for predicting maneuvering of the Canadian Navys HALIFAX class. HalManeuver was developed using ShipMo3D, an object-oriented library for predicting ship motions in calm water and in waves. Predicted maneuvering motions are determined by evaluating forces acting on the hull, rudder, propeller, and other appendages. Input parameters to HalManeuver include increments to hull maneuvering force coefficients, which can be adjusted to optimize agreement between observed and predicted maneuvering properties. HalManeuver demonstrates the development of an application using the ShipMo3D library. Other applications for ship maneuvering in both calm water and in waves will be developed as requirements arise.
