Unstable Resonator Mid-Infrared Laser Sources

Abstract

Progress has been made in tunable infrared lasers and in novel epitaxial structures for next generation electronics. A tunable infrared laser based on a chirped grating distributed feedback structure and optical pumping has been demonstrated with an 80-nm tuning range at 3.1 micron and a line width of < 1nm. Novel nanowire geometries based on selective growth of heterogeneous materials on Si(001) substrates have been designed and initial demonstrations of growth have been undertaken.
