Optimization of Soft Tissue Management, Spacer Design, and Grafting Strategies for Large Segmental Bone Defects using the Chronic Caprine Tibial Defect Model
Abstract
This proposal addresses the treatment of segmental bone defects and methods that can be used to manipulate the Masquelet induced membrane to create a graft bed that optimizes bone regeneration. The results showed that scraping the inner surface of the induced membrane provided a highly desirable environment that promoted more bone regeneration by providing exposure of the autograft placed in the defect site to fresh blood and competing non-osteogenic cells.
