Characterization of the Polypeptides in Varicella Zoster Virus - Infected Cells

Abstract

The structural and functional proteins expressed by Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV), the agent that causes chicfcenpox and shingles, wereexamined at the infected cell level and the virion level. To accomplishthis a new cell line of human foreskin fibroblasts was employed for thegrowth of the virus. In addition a unique virion isolation techniquewas developed using sucrose zonal centrifugation followed by a combinationof equilibrium-viscosity sedimentation with potassium tartrateglycerolgradients.
