Flexible, Smart, and Lethal: Adapting US SEAD Doctrine to Changing Threats

Abstract

To gain total air supremacy in the modern age, air forces must not only render the enemys air force ineffective but also contend with ground-based anti air defenses. Over the past two decades, the United States has acquired unquestioned air dominance in every major conflict that it has fought. This unrivaled success has prompted other nations to reassess their strategies and has pushed the development of an anti access/area-denial (A2/AD) doctrine that has become central to these strategies.
