Data Fusion
Abstract
Data Fusion is a successfully completed Research and Development project funded by The Chemical, Biological, Radiological-Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Research and Technology Initiative (CXRTI). Data Fusion focused on creating a reusable framework for Syndromic Surveillance solutions. It developed and delivered an adaptive process framework and software framework in conjunction with two domain-specific prototypes. These frameworks are extensible and be configured to other domains and problems that could benefit from surveillance solutions The project team comprised of healthcare and technical partners, selected two disparate and important healthcare problems that could benefit from automated surveillance, and developed a solution prototype for each: 1) the detection of serious in-hospital disease outbreaks, and 2) the surveillance of harm related to illicit substance abuse. The goal of each prototype is to enhance early detection and present relevant information to responders to assist in their decision making process. The prototypes were tested on a retrospective dataset from multiple sources within the electronic health record and were shown to be effective and useful.
