Confronting Resurgent Russia: U.S. Air Force Global Strike Contributions to National Deterrent Strategy

Abstract

As evidenced by their military intervention in South Ossetia, it is clear that Russia is attempting to reestablish their sphere of influence in the surrounding region. Their leadership, especially Prime Minister Putin, also appear steadfast in their efforts to recreate a resurgent Russia as the world player it once was. Future U.S. presidents must carefully consider changes to national security policy to deal with Russian aggression towards their neighbors. The heart of the strategy must be economic, diplomatic, and information efforts backed up with a credible threat of military action.
