Operations Assessment in Decision Point Development

Abstract

While doctrine discusses some incorporation of operational assessment in the planning process, practice demonstrates that operational assessment is minimally integrated with the rest of the planning group. This reduces the effectiveness and accuracy of the operational assessment and minimizes the commanders situational awareness. Three items with the operational assessment process will be addressed: data collection, standardized operational objectives, and clarification of decision point recommendations.
