Noble Gas Plasmas with Metallic Conductivity: A New Light Source from a New State of Matter

Abstract

Dense plasmas form a non-ideal, correlated state. We have recreated the plasma inside sono-luminescing bubbleswith sparks and laser breakdown, which has dramatically simplified their study. These plasmas can be used forrapid, broadband optical switching and high-harmonic generation.
