Grating Formation in BGG3l Glass by UV Exposure

Abstract

A three-dimensional index variation grating in bulk BGG31 glasswritten using neither hydrogen loading nor germanium doping isdemonstrated. This material is useful for fabricating ionexchangedwaveguides, and its photascnsitivity to ultraviolet (LTV)radiation at 248nm has not bcen previously explond. Intensitymeasnrcments of the Bragg diffracted spots indicated a milximumindex variation (delta n) of approximately 4 X 10(-5).
