Beyond Joint: Operationalizing Inter-Agency Coordination to Achieve Unity of Action

Abstract

Recent global societal trends will have a significant effect upon the utility of force as an arbiter in international affairs. Furthermore, in seeking to transform its defense establishment post wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the US Department of Defense (DoD) has missed critical lessons. To maintain a position of significant influence in the world the United States DoD must better integrate with other governmental departments to achieve Unity of Effort.
