Extended Life Coolant Testing

Abstract

The U.S. Army has a desire to understand the interaction of traditional and extended life coolants with the goal to reduce the logistical burden of providing vehicle specific coolants. Several laboratory corrosion tests were performed according to ASTM D1384 and D2570, but with a 2.5x extended time length. While the results of testing showed little corrosion, some negative interactions with the corrosive water mixture were observed.
