Accession Medical Standards Analysis and Research Activity (AMSARA), 2014 Annual Report

Abstract

AMSARA's mission is to support the development of evidence based medical standards for the Department of Defense by guiding the improvement of medical and administrative databases, conducting epidemiologic analyses, and integrating relevant operational, clinical, and economic considerations into policy recommendations. This repo11 includes special studies and descriptive statistics compiled and published annually for historical and reference value. Special studies include analyses of physical demands ratings (PDR) of enlisted Soldiers who are discharged in the first year of service; PDR in Soldiers screened using the Tailored Adaptive Personality Assessment System (TAPAS) and the Assessment of Recruit Motivation and Strength (ARMS) accession fitness test; and an analysis of healthcare utilization among Soldiers screened using TAPAS. Descriptive statistics are for enlisted active duty applicants and accessions in FY13 and are compared to the five-year aggregate data from FY 2008-2012. Data are collected while the recruits are in their first year of service. By convention, the annual report is dated for the first complete year after enlistment (FY 2014). Comparisons can be made between services and between enlisted components (active, reserve, National Guard).
