Performance Assessment of the 3M Combat Arms Generation 4.0 Tactical Military Shooter's Ear Plug

Abstract

Passive hearing protectors, capable of attenuating both continuous and impulsive noise, were designed to protect the hearing of individuals exposed to a variety of impulsive and continuous noise like gunfire, explosions, vehicles, and machinery. Preservation of ambient listening capabilities and situational awareness is necessary for many military operations. The 3M Combat Arms Generation 4.0 Tactical Military Shooter's Ear Plugs were assessed for: continuous noise attenuation, impulsive peak insertion loss, and sound localization. The Combat Arms Generation 4.0 Ear Plugs reduced the noise level in the ear when the user was exposed to continuous and/or impulsive noise.
