Quantal Response: Nonparametric Modeling

Abstract

Binary response to a continuous stimulus was originally modeled as a cumulative distribution of limit quantities interpreted as an increasing functional relationship between stimulus and probability of response. The Generalized Linear Model approach does not make use of the limit distribution but allows arbitrary functional relationships including both classical higher-orderpolynomials and also nonparametric spline models based on penalized maximum likelihood estimation.
