Propuesta Para La Creacion Del Cuerpo De Ingenieros De Las Fuerzas Armadas De Honduras. Proposal for the Creation of a Corps of Engineers in the Honduran Armed Forces

Abstract

In addition to their proper functions of ensuring national defense and national security, many governments rely on their Armed Forces to execute engineering projects that are important to national development and well-being. The technical branch of Military Engineers plays an important role in these tasks. An analysis of the present situation in Honduras reveals that engineering units have constructed public works that have been very beneficial to certain regions of the country. This leads us to propose to the competent authorities the creation of a Corps of Military Engineers capable of planning, organizing, executing, and maintaining those engineering projects needed to enhance the national infrastructure. This thesis provides an analysis of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) that must be considered in creating such a corps. Also considered are the professional opinions of knowledgeable persons in order to understand the public perceptions of such an initiative among the citizenry and to establish the proper strategy for the development of projects at the national level.
