Management of Traumatic Brain Injury in Tactical Combat Casualty Care

Abstract

Of 355,425 diagnoses of traumatic brain injury (TBI) between 2000 and 2011, 45,131 were moderate, severe or penetrating.1 The Department of Defense (DoD) has made significant advancements in expanding guidance regarding the treatment of Service members with mild TBI (mTBI), but limited guidance exists for the treatment of casualties with severe TBI, especially on the battlefield.
