Dynamic Performance Assessment of Side Facing Troop Seats During Impact

Abstract

The Aircrew Biodynamics and Protection Group of the Applied Neuroscience Branch (711 HPW/RHCPT) agreed to conduct a dynamic comparative test program of currently-fielded side facing troop seats. The test program consisted of impact testing of stock UH-60, CV-22, and CH-53 seats. The tests were conducted to compare how effectively the seats protected occupants ranging from the 5th percentile female to 98th percentile male. A series of ten tests using each type of seat was performed.
