The United States Space Force: Not If, But When

Abstract

This study explores the historical context behind the genesis of the United States Air Force in an attempt to understand what contextual factors must be present in order for the nation to consider establishing an independent Space Force. The thesis acknowledges the seemingly inevitability of a new branch of service, partially driven by our military reliance on space capabilities but also because of the way that space is slowly being woven into the fabric of our society. This academic work pays homage to the United States Air Force for the exceptional role it has played in developing our space capabilities.
