Perceived Pain During Photorefractive Keratectomy in the First Eye Operated on Compared to the Second
Abstract
Photorefractive keratectomy is a refractive error correction procedure that helps eliminate or reduce the dependence on corrective lenses. An important aspect of PRK is pain management. Intra-operative pain is generally well tolerated but there seems to be (by simple observation) a disparate number of patients stating differences in pain levels in the first versus the second eye operated on. There have been no studies performed to explore any differences in perceived pain in the first versus second eye operated on. This study is designed to answer this question by means of a pain survey immediately post-op. This may help better manage similar patients in the future.
