El Mejoramiento de la Efectividad del Personal de las Diferentes Unidades del Ejrcito de Guatemala Involucradas en la Integracin de Contingentes Desplegados en Diferentes Misiones de Paz de la Organizacin de las Naciones Unidas (Improving the Effectiveness of Guatemalan Army Units that Provide Soldiers to Units Deployed in United Nations Peace Missions)

Abstract

The participation of the Guatemalan Army in United Nations Peace Operations is important because it allows Guatemala to contribute to these worthy international efforts. It also provides valuable experience to the participants. Nevertheless, military units from the regular army that provide soldiers for these deployments are negatively affected in the performance of their normal duties because of lack of personnel. This research addresses the question: How could the performance of units that provide soldiers to United Nations Peace Operations be improved? It proceeds with a DOTMLPF (Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership, Personnel, Facilities) analysis in order to identify deficiencies in the process with the goal of finding ways to accomplish the important United Nations mission without negatively affecting the performance of regular army units of the Guatemalan Army.
