Groundwork for a Theory of the Combatant

Abstract

Individualistic approaches to killing in war such as self-defense and liability are among the most common ways contemporary scholars understand killing in war. However, such arguments can be very complex, which makes them of little practical value in actual moral deliberation. Additionally, the reductive nature of these arguments limits their application to actual wartime scenarios.
